Setup
Getting started with BOOX Mirror
Use an Apple silicon Mac with macOS 14 or later and a USB data cable. The build is not notarized, so macOS warns on first launch.
Pair over USB before trying Wi-Fi.
Install on the Mac
Open the DMG, drag BOOX Mirror into Applications, and launch it from there. On first launch macOS will say it cannot verify the developer: dismiss the alert, then open System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway → Open.
Grant permissions
In Setup, allow Screen Recording. If you also want to control the Mac from the tablet, allow Accessibility. macOS may ask you to quit and reopen the app.
Pair the tablet over USB
On the BOOX, turn on Developer options → USB debugging. Connect the cable, unlock the tablet and accept Allow USB debugging for this Mac. Back on the Mac, click Check connection, then Install Receiver on BOOX.
Connect
On the Connect page choose Extended desktop or Main Mac display, pick USB, and click Connect. The app restores the tunnel and opens the receiver on the tablet for you.
Go wireless, if you want to
With both devices on the same trusted network, choose Trusted Wi-Fi on the Mac and click Connect. On the BOOX, enter the local IP shown beside This Mac, the port, and the six-digit pairing code. Allow local-network access if macOS asks. The USB cable can then be unplugged.
Arrange the display
Open System Settings → Displays and position the BOOX where it physically sits, then drag a window onto it.

Troubleshooting
When something does not work
Find the symptom below. If it is missing, email us.
Symptom, and what to do
- macOS will not open the app
- macOS says it cannot verify the developer. The current build is ad hoc signed and not notarized, so this warning is expected on first launch. Dismiss the alert, then open System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway → Open.
- The tablet is not detected
- On the BOOX, turn on Developer options → USB debugging. Connect the USB data cable, unlock the tablet, and accept Allow USB debugging for this Mac when the prompt appears on the tablet. Back on the Mac, click Check connection.
- Permissions are not taking effect
- Screen Recording is granted in Setup, and Accessibility too if you want to control the Mac from the tablet. macOS may ask you to quit and reopen the app before a permission applies — do that before trying again.
- Wi-Fi will not connect
- Both devices have to be on the same trusted network. Choose Trusted Wi-Fi on the Mac and click Connect; on the BOOX, enter the local IP shown beside This Mac, the port, and the six-digit pairing code. Allow local-network access if macOS asks for it.
- Typing does nothing
- Typing needs a physical Bluetooth or USB keyboard attached to the BOOX — the tablet's on-screen keyboard is not forwarded to the Mac. Tap the mirrored desktop to focus it, then click into a Mac text field and type. The Mac's keyboard layout applies, so Meta maps to Command, Alt to Option and Ctrl to Control.
- The tablet cannot control the Mac
- Control Mac from BOOX needs the macOS Accessibility permission. Without it the tablet view stays read-only and everything else still works. Grant Accessibility in Setup, quit and reopen the app if macOS asks, then enable Control Mac. If it was working and has stopped, check the tablet: Control Mac has to be re-enabled on the BOOX after every reconnect. Android Back, Home and volume keys stay with the tablet either way.
- Nothing connects after an update
- Both halves have to match. Quit the Mac app, replace it from the new DMG, then run Setup → Update Receiver on BOOX over USB. Wi-Fi can resume afterwards.

No. Traffic between the Mac and the tablet is unencrypted on your local network. If the network is not one you trust, use USB instead.
