How it works

Set up in 4 steps.

  1. Install

    Open the DMG and move BOOX Mirror to Applications. Allow Screen Recording.

  2. Pair over USB

    Enable USB debugging on the BOOX, connect a data cable, approve this Mac, then install the receiver.

  3. Connect

    Choose an extended desktop or main display. Use USB or, after pairing, a trusted local Wi-Fi network.

  4. Arrange

    Position the BOOX in System Settings → Displays.

What you need

MacRequired
Apple silicon (M-series). Intel Macs are not supported.

Tablet
A BOOX tablet running Android, with Developer options available.
Cable
A USB data cable — required for first-time setup even if you intend to use Wi-Fi.
Developer tools
Not needed. The tablet app and USB tools are included in the download.
Code signingRequired
The current build is ad hoc signed and not notarized, so macOS will warn that it cannot verify the developer on first launch.

Limitations

Other limitations

  • Apple silicon only. Intel Macs cannot run it.
  • Window capture is view-only unless you grant Accessibility and enable Control Mac.
  • The BOOX on-screen keyboard is not forwarded — typing needs a physical keyboard attached to the tablet.
  • Control Mac has to be re-enabled on the BOOX after every reconnect.
  • Android Back, Home and volume keys stay with the tablet and are not passed to the Mac.
  • E-ink refresh behaviour means this suits reading, writing, reference and terminal work rather than video or fast motion.

E-ink is reflective rather than backlit. macOS text size, Zoom, Increase Contrast, Reduce Motion and VoiceOver continue to work on the extended display.

Tablet control requires Accessibility permission; otherwise the display is view-only.

Screen frames and optional input travel over USB or your local Wi-Fi. Our servers do not receive them. The app collects no screen content or telemetry.

Screen Recording is required. Accessibility is needed for tablet control; Local Network is needed for Wi-Fi.
